ATREG is pleased to announce that it has successfully advised Renesas Electronics Corporation and its wholly owned subsidiary Renesas Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in the sale of its 200mm fab located in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. The fab was purchased by ROHM Co., Ltd. who will also lease the land and buildings associated with the 200mm wafer fabrication line. The facility employs some 220 people and manufactures microcontrollers, analog, and power devices.
Renesas Electronics is proceeding with the realignment of its manufacturing facilities in Japan in order to strengthen its financial base. As part of this process, plans called for the eight-inch wafer fabrication line at Renesas Semiconductor Manufacturing’s Shiga factory to be consolidated within two to three years. Renesas had engaged ATREG to identify a purchaser for the production line and now an agreement has been reached with ROHM who will use the fab to bolster production for products such as power semiconductors and piezoelectric MEMS devices, with the fab transfer scheduled to be completed in February 2016.
