The latest industry figures reported by SEMI and the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) are showing some encouraging recovery signs for the global semiconductor industry. These include two important indicators derived from data collected by the Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics (WWSEMS).
GLOBAL SALES OF SEMICONDUCTOR MANUFACTURING EQUIPMENT (SEMI)
Worldwide semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales increased by 10% to reach $117.1 billion in 2024 from $106.3 billion in 2023.

Highlights by sector
✔️ Sales of wafer processing equipment increasing by 9%
✔️ Other front-end segments rising by 5%
The back-end equipment segment, after two consecutive years of decline, saw a robust recovery in 2024, driven by the increasing complexity and demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) manufacturing.
✔️ Assembly and packaging equipment sales increased by 25%
✔️ Test equipment billings rose by 20% year-over-year
Highlights by region
✔️ China / Korea / Taiwan – Top 3 markets collectively accounting for 74% of the global semiconductor equipment spending market
✔️ Korea – 3% increase ($20.5 billion in equipment spending)
✔️ China – Top semiconductor equipment market (investments up by 35% YoY to $49.6 billion)
✔️ Taiwan – 16% decline (equipment sales falling to $16.6 billion)
✔️ North America – 14% rise in semiconductor equipment investments ($13.7 billion)
✔️ RoW – 15% increase ($4.2 billion in billings)
✔️ Europe – 25% decline (equipment spending falling to $4.9 billion)
✔️ Japan – 1% dip ($7.8 billion in sales)
